Error codes

When a Tavrik API request fails, the response is a problem document in the format set out in RFC 9457. Its type field links to one of the pages below, and its code field holds the same code.

Every code the API returns in that format has a page here. Each page says what the error means, what to do about it, and any headers or fields that come with it.

The OpenAI-compatible routes, /v1/chat/completions and /v1/models, return errors in OpenAI's own format instead, so client libraries written for OpenAI can read them. Those responses do not link here.

Code	Status	Meaning
`bad_request`	HTTP 400	The request was malformed or could not be processed.
`injection_detected`	HTTP 400	The request matches known prompt-injection patterns.
`pii_blocked`	HTTP 400	The request contains personal information that the tenant's policy does not allow.
`policy_denied`	HTTP 400	The request was denied by the tenant's policy.
`residency_violation`	HTTP 400	The request would send data outside the tenant's permitted region.
`extension_revoked`	HTTP 401	The browser extension's enrolment has been revoked.
`unauthenticated`	HTTP 401	Authentication credentials are missing or invalid.
`forbidden`	HTTP 403	The authenticated principal does not have permission for this action.
`not_found`	HTTP 404	The requested resource does not exist.
`conflict`	HTTP 409	The request conflicts with the current state of the resource.
`policy_deleted`	HTTP 409	The policy version is deleted and cannot be activated.
`payload_too_large`	HTTP 413	The request body exceeded the configured size limit.
`cost_ceiling_exceeded`	HTTP 429	The tenant has used its configured daily cost budget.
`rate_limited`	HTTP 429	The tenant or principal has exceeded its rate limit.
`internal`	HTTP 500	The server encountered an unexpected condition.
`jailbreak_detected`	HTTP 502	The model's response matched known jailbreak patterns and was blocked.
`pii_leak_detected`	HTTP 502	The model's response contained personal information that the tenant's policy does not allow.
`upstream`	HTTP 502	An AI provider failed to handle the request.
`byok_required_key_missing`	HTTP 503	The tenant requires its own provider key, and none is configured.
`node_not_serving`	HTTP 503	This node is not the active one and does not accept changes.
